VX Instruments GmbH has developed a standard system for testing high-voltage signals that serves a wide range of end applications, including automotive, communications, scientific, military/aerospace, and consumer electronics. For this test system, nVent SCHROFF delivered the hardware system infrastructure, including the case, cooling solution, electronics, and backplane, to protect the custom board built-in by VX Instruments. The system is part of the product offerings of VX Instruments and provides the end-user a platform for the development of a PXIe-based application.
Customer RequirementÂ
The technical requirements primarily specified by VX Instruments and implemented accordingly:
- The intention was to give the end-user the highest degree of flexibility when configuring his test system with PXI and PXI Express instruments
- The system was only allowed to be 2 U high and had to contain 12 slots
- It should support PCI Express Gen 3 but also be backward compatible with the legacy PXI standard
Solution OverviewÂ
To have as many free slots as possible for measurement boards, a slimline PXI Express System Controller is used in this system. The internally developed controller has the dimensions 3 U and 4 HP and an integrated COM type 6 module. For backward compatibility, most slots are hybrid slots. The chassis is delivered completely integrated with the chassis management, passive backplane, and mechanics. Since the individual components are part of our portfolio, the system is producible without significant development effort.
